What is your favorite thing or things to do when you're not at CFS?

When I’m not at crossfit, you can find me either outside working in my garden or inside cooking/baking. I’m very much a homebody, I love being home playing with my 3 kids and 2 dogs.

What made you want to start CrossFit?

My personal circumstances at the time that I joined crossfit made me realize I needed to do something to improve my overall mental and physical well being. For years I had always been a runner and crossfit was something that intrigued me. I woke up on a Monday morning last August and on a whim I googled crossfit gyms in my area and Crossfit Skunk popped up. I got up, got dressed and drove to Crossfit Skunk where Deb was just getting ready for a 9:30 am class. She immediately made me feel welcome and I realized that crossfit was just what I needed. I did the WOD that day and I’ve been hooked ever since!

What motivates you through a tough WOD?

I just keep telling myself it’s almost over. And I think we all secretly enjoy torturing ourselves to a certain extent. Plus the feeling you get after you’ve pushed yourself to complete a really tough WOD is so rewarding.

What is your favorite motivational quote?

“Don’t stop when you’re tired, stop when you’re done!”

What is some advice you'd give to someone new to CrossFit Skunk or just started CrossFit?

“Stick with it! You will have good days and bad days and that’s ok! Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, every day you show up , you are bettering yourself!”

What is something you've done at CFS that you never thought you'd do?

I actually did my first strict pull-up a few weeks ago and I’ve also learned how to do kipping pull-ups.

What are your CrossFit goals?

For me it’s not so much about the number of pounds or reps, it’s more about just showing up as often as I can and completing the WODS as best as I can. If I had to choose something I would say I’d like to be a heavier squatter.

What is your most favorite or least favorite movement?

Most Favorite: Toes to bar, squat snatch, overhead squat Least Favorite: Thrusters, thrusters, thrusters! Hate them!

What is your biggest accomplishment since starting CrossFit?

Hmmmm... thats a toughie.... I guess it would be just learning to accept myself for who I am physically and mentally and realizing that it’s ok to have ups and downs in both aspects.

 Crossfit has certainly changed my life for the better. It has taught me to push myself even when I don’t feel like pushing. To be honest it’s hard to remember what life was like before Crossfit. Every day at midnight I’m excited to see what the WOD is going to be! And even when its intimidating it’s such a good feeling to go and try your best and see what your body is capable of.

What have you learned since joining CrossFit Skunk?

I am capable of doing anything that I put my mind to, it might be tough, but we do it together and the camaraderie that exists at Crossfit skunk is more than half the battle. The coaches and other members are so encouraging of each other, it really makes CFS an awesome place to be!
